Big Brother Canada - April 24

I'm going to start off by saying THIS "overtired mama" is going to stay overtired if Big Brother Canada doesn't throw me a bone next season by helping us east coasters out... have at least one show a week that starts at 8 PM eastern.  That's 9 PM Atlantic..... because when the show ends at 11 PM... I'm done.  Exhausted.  Anyway, there's my "rant of the day".  Just kidding... that won't be my last rant today.  I'm a complainer.

Recap of last night...

Heather, Neda and Adel decide to hide on Jon when he goes to the Diary room.  He kind of freaks out when he can't find them.  Pretty funny.

Heather and Neda talk strategy.  Jon would be hard to beat in the end... for both of them.  But as they chat, I find it hard to believe that Neda would ever vote Jon out.  Not that I want her to, I really like Jon, but if I was Neda, I would be thinking it would be hard to beat him in the end.  If she wants to make a big move, she has to get him out.  But I don't see it happening.  And that makes me happy, I like Jon.

We got to see a little peak at the Jury house.  Very nice.  However, then we have to endure various shots of Arlie in the nude.  Ugh, I was hoping that we wouldn't be subjected to that site again once he was sent there.

Jon receives his "treats" for winning the reward competition... and bitter Neda is not happy to miss out and have to eat slop.

Next we get to see a montage of Adel and Sabrina fighting, including a rehashing of the "sugar incident" where she said Adel "ripped the sugar from her hands".  (But, in fact, we see in the replay that he took it off the counter).

Leading up to the vote, we see Sabrina pleading to be kept... including a chat she has with Jon where he muses about "throwing the HOH".  I never get that.  Unless you're playing with no one else (ie - no alliance), who cares if you can't compete the following week!  Assuming you have a good Alliance, shouldn't it be good enough that your fellow alliance members will be able to compete?  Throwing an HOH competition is stupid.

The vote - Rachelle is unanimously voted out.  I will say, I didn't really like her as a player, but she deserves some kind of reward for dealing with Sabrina's crying all the time.

I see Neda took Emmett and Jillian's advice and recorded a nice goodbye message for Rachelle.

On to HOH - They have to untangle themselves through an obstacle course (does that make sense?).  Anyway, this is a "to be continued" result.  Unless you can't wait, in which case, look up some spoilers to see who won.... like I did.  :)

Big Brother Canada - April 23

At the end of the previous episode, Adel said that his nasty speech, when he nominated the Gremlins, was part of his strategy.  He elaborated during this episode.... he said that he wants the other houseguests to consider taking him to the end because they will assume that he wouldn't have the votes because everyone hates him.  He thinks he can talk himself out of those speeches.  Maybe... but given how angry the Gremlins are... it would have to be some pretty sweet "sweet talk".  Has Adel forgotten about Paul?  Remember the horrible things he said about Andrew?  How did that work out for him?  Yeah....

Next up - POV.  Peter Brown (BB1) is hosting the competition.... he reads "postcards from evicted houseguests".  The current houseguests have to figure out who the post card is from and find giant puzzle pieces to assemble the postcard.  When the challenge begins, everyone is gangbusters.... and the Gremlins are shocked at how well Heather is doing.  I'm really not liking all of the Heather bashing that's been happening this season.  The other houseguests underestimate her.  Neda wins POV, and along with the POV, wins a special visit from Jillian and Emmett form Season 1.  They talk strategy with her.  Personally, I'm not convinced Neda can win.  She's made some enemies, and has a few likeable houseguests left there with her that she's aligned with.  Jillian points out that you need to be nice in your "goodbye messages" as these are the people who will be voting for the winner.  I shouted "Duh!" out loud, but apparently this is something Neda hadn't considered.  And we know that given the speech she gave when she nominated Allison, and the nasty goodbye message for Arlie.  I think she has her work cut out for her.

The Houseguests get a visit from the Easter Bunny.  Neda is "morally opposed" to the Easter Bunny and wants to know why parents would lie to their kids.  Um... has she not heard of Santa?  The tooth fairy?  Is she morally opposed to those things too?  Although, they are different, because they're real... right?   RIGHT?

Anyway, POV ceremony - it's no surprise that Neda doesn't use the Veto.  I'm just happy she didn't make them each make a ridiculous speech.

Eviction night tonight!  Which Gremlin is headed for the door?

Big Brother Canada - April 20

Yes, I'm a day late with this recap.  But, better late than never, right?

So we find out that once Neda won HOH, she was sequestered in the War Room and told she would be part of an "instant eviction".  She had 5 minutes to decide who to nominate.  With Neda's absence, the other houseguests were freaking out about what it could all mean.  Eventually, Arisa brings them in on the secret.  Neda nominates Sabrina and Allison.  Everyone has to vote immediately.  No surprise, Allison goes home.  Good luck getting Allison's vote in the end Neda.  Breaking promises never bodes well.  When you make a final 4 deal with a jury member, you better have a pretty good excuse to break it.

On to the next HOH.  Adel wins.  He almost immediately tells Sabrina that he is nominating Sabrina and Rachelle.  I don't think anyone was surprised by that.  But certainly, Rachelle and Sabrina are regretting keeping Adel over Arlie.

There's a little "interlude" of fun stuff when Rachelle says that Big Brother has allowed them to have a Passover meal together.  Everyone enjoys themselves.

I'm not going to get in to the various crying escapades of Sabrina, because we've all seen it before.  She does decide to hang her jury vote over everyone's head, but no one bites the bait.

In the end, Adel sticks to his assertion and nominates "the Gremlins" although in the process says some pretty mean things about the girls.  He says it's part of his "strategy".  Well, if his strategy is to not have those girls vote for him to win.... mission accomplished.

Big Brother Canada - April 16

Let me start off by saying, this is one of the only episodes I didn't "live tweet", which means I have to write this recap completely based on my memory... and that may not be a good thing.  But here goes...

Recap of the last episode - we are reminded that "the Gremlins" have been nominated.  Sabrina says repeatedly what a "stupid move" this was for Jon to make because they offered him "the best deal ever".  I'm not convinced it was a stupid move, but anyway...

We see that Arlie is totally pumped about his "alliance" with Jon and says he feels safe.  (spoiler alert - he's not safe).

Flash forward to Adel getting a challenge from "Marsha the Moose"  this challenge consists of : 1 - Getting someone to work out with him for 10 minutes; 2 - Getting one of the girls to go on a date with him; 3 - Make someone cry... Marsha says the last one won't be so hard because Sabrina's "probably crying right now".  So true Marsha, so true.  Little does Adel know that the other houseguests are being given a challenge as well.  Don't let Adel complete his challenge.  Oh Big Brother, you like to stir up drama.  So Adel tries so hard... he asks Jon to work out with him... Jon decides to string him along in to thinking he will work out, he doesn't.  He tries to make Sabrina cry... for once, she doesn't.  And finally, he asks each of the girls on a date.  This part of the challenge makes me sad.  He looks so hopeful as he asks them all, only to be shot down.  In particular, when he's asking Allison, he keeps asking her to "high 5" on it.  He looks like an excited kid every time he's close to "sealing the deal", but alas, it wasn't to be.   He's called to the diary room and told he failed.  He gets a little snarky with Marsha, and comes out to tell the houseguests he lost his challenge and that the house will be punished.  Then Jon reveals their challenge and that they've won a reward for the whole house.  A date night!  Date night consisted of fondue and alcohol!   How romantic!  So we have a segment of very happy houseguests... and one shot of someone (I couldn't see who) vomiting in the bathroom.  Fun!

Now on to the serious stuff.  POV competition.  The competition involves throwing tshirts in a suitcase. Jon wins POV, plus a vacation.  At the POV ceremony, he saves Rachelle and nominates Arlie.  THEN Allison uses her secret POV to save Sabrina and Jon nominates Adel.  Everyone is freaking out!!!

We find out if the "backdoor Arlie" plan goes ahead, or if the house will flip.

Big Brother Canada - April 13

I will start this post with a little confession.  I didn't actually watch the entire episode last night.  In my defense, there was a children's birthday party at my house yesterday and I had a headache.  Reasonable, right?  Anyway, I did watch the first 20 minutes or so and I've been reading the spoilers... so hopefully what I reveal in this post is not beyond what's been revealed in the episode, but here we go.

So we pick back up with a recap of what happened last episode, and Arlie talks about what an awesome player he is.  All while SHOUTING!  I've had about enough of Arlie.

So when Kenny is evicted, Sabrina says "I'm here alone now."  Ouch to Rachelle.  I thought they were "best friends"?

We are back to the HOH competition.  Rachelle says she wants to win so she can make a big move and get a major player out.  Who is she kidding?  She would wait for her instructions from other people.  I don't think she's made a move by herself at all during this game.

Jon wins HOH, everyone celebrates.... well, except Sabrina and Rachelle who have small smiles on their faces and give a slow clap.  Although Sabrina says she's relatively confident because she and Jon have a close relationship.  They do?

Anyway, I can't comment on what they showed for the remainder of the episode, other than the two nominees are Rachelle and Sabrina... or as the "Sloppy Seconds" alliance calls them, "the Gremlins".  I don't think those nominees are a surprise to anyone.

We'll find out Wednesday who wins the POV and if they use it!

Big Brother Canada - April 10

Double eviction night!

We start the episode with Sarah asking Arlie to save her from eviction.  He says he can't.  I have a hard time with this conversation because he doesn't take his toothbrush out of his mouth when he talks to her.  If I were her, I would have wanted to shove his toothbrush down his throat.  Am I the only one that is finding Arlie annoying?

Then on to Allison and Sabrina.  Allison tells Sabrina she's going to work with the other side, and I want to say "Well, duh" because if she's working with Kenny's side, she has to try to keep Sarah, and that wouldn't make sense.  But this really upsets Sabrina, who starts to cry, and cry to the point of gasping for air.  Really?  Come on now Sabrina.  You cry so much in this house that I'm pretty sure your tears mean nothing to anyone.  I was happy to see Allison say in her diary room session "It's not all about you Sabrina".  So true.  Although I will add that I watched this exchange on the live feeds, and Allison was upset by Sabrina's crying, and Allison was hurt by their exchange and cried when Sabrina left.  Sabrina proceeded directly outside and ripped Allison apart to Rachelle, no tears, just anger.  Another reason I don't trust her crying is sincere.

Neda decides she's going to "sabotage" Kenny by dumping out all of the condiments that Kenny uses to improve the taste of slop.

We get to see all of the houseguests relaxing in the back yard when Kenny decides to say "F*** it, I'm gay!"  Everyone freaks out and are excited.  Then Sabrina says "That's why you do hot yoga!"  And talks about how all of her friends are gay.  Awkward.

First eviction - Sarah and her cute dress are voted out of the house.  She and Kenny cry for a bit, and she leaves.  Bye bye Mumsie.

Next, Arisa drops the bombshell, double eviction.

HOH competition, and Neda wins!  I'm still not clear as to whether Arlie threw that or not, but anyway.  Neda nominates Sabrina and Rachelle.  At first, I was puzzled by the nominations, but then, I realize what she was doing.... she wants to backdoor Kenny.

Sure enough, Veto competition, and Arlie shows the most gusto I've seen from him all game... and wins!  He uses the Veto on Rachelle, and Kenny is nominated.  Unsurprisingly, Kenny is voted out.  What was a surprise?  Rachelle voted to evict Sabrina.  I'm not really sure why.

Then they begin the next HOH, but it's a "too be continued competition"... so we don't know the winner... and by "we" I mean, people who haven't read the spoilers, which doesn't include me, because I do know who won.

Big Brother Canada - April 9

So we begin tonight with the "fallout" from the nomination ceremony.

Allison "exposes" the "First 5" alliance.  Brilliant.

At one point we see Sabrina talk about Allison working against "her side" of the house... and the people Andrew was loyal to.  Here's the thing.  Allison is nominated against Kenny, and Andrew was loyal to both of them.  So of course she has to work "against" Kenny... how else would she stay in the house?

We also got to see the houseguests unwind a little bit with a hot tub dance party.  I will admit that party looked pretty fun and I wished I was there.  I also enjoyed that you could here a couple people yell "this is awesome!"

Now, the POV.  The Challenge is a "gold dig" challenge... looking for letters.  You have to spell the longest word possible.  For whatever reason, Sabrina and Rachelle seemed confused by this.  Then, we can cue the multiple jokes about whether Heather is able to spell, etc, etc.  Am I missing something?  Why does everyone hate Heather so much?  I don't get it.  I haven't seen her do anything really bad.  But, I digress.

In the end, Kenny and Heather have words with the same amount of letters, but Heather's is misspelled.  Sabrina seems to enjoy that a little too much.  Although, until Jon pointed out that it was misspelled, nobody else seemed to notice, so either none of the houseguests are very perceptive, or they are all equally bad spellers.  So Kenny wins POV.

Big Brother then puts a potted plant in the house.  Everyone proceeds to look over the plant pretty carefully.  Allison evidently pays the most attention and examines the closest, because she finds a clue and proceeds on a bit of a "Scavenger Hunt" which leads her to the "war room" and .... the secret power of veto.  She can use it anytime over the next 3 eviction ceremonies.  Exciting.

We then see a bit of a crumbling in the first 5 alliance.  Arlie goes to Kenny to try to convince him that if "someone" flips, it must be Sabrina.  Kenny's not buying it, so he goes and reports back to the others.  Arlie awkwardly shows up and they all passive aggressively discuss how stupid it would be for "someone" to flip at this point.  Arlie says in the diary room that he "created the other side to fight this side".  Um, he did?  Because I don't remember any of that.

On to the POV ceremony.  I'm really glad that Allison wasn't forced to make a speech, because we all knew that Kenny was going to use it.  Allison also decides not to use her POV at this point.  Sarah is put up as replacement.

Tonight's episode should be exciting... a double eviction!

Big Brother Canada - April 6

First, let me start off by saying, this is the most I've posted on a regular basis on this blog, so... yay me!

Now back to Big Brother....

We pick up where we left off at the HOH challenge.  And, as I indicated last time, I think this challenge really shows you who is on which side of the house.  And despite what Arlie thinks... throwing the competition also shows what side he is on.... and Sarah knows it.

In the end Heather wins HOH.  I look forward to watching Sabrina and Rachelle suck up to her, given how horrible they've been to her at this point.  She shows everyone her HOH room and Rachelle rolls her eyes and sits with a sour look on her face as Heather reads her letter from her boyfriend.  We also get a little clip from the diary room about how much she doesn't like that Heather won.  Well Rachelle, bitter is not a good look for you.  Suck it up, buttercup.   We also see Kenny say he doesn't understand why she's crying over the letter because she's only been in there a month.  Wait. Pause.  Is this not the guy who has cried the last few times other HOHs read their letters?  And who could forget how upset he was when Ika shredded the letters from home:

So don't act like she's being ridiculous!  As much as I loved Kenny in the beginning... his alliance with Andrew and recent behavior are really turning me against him.

Then Heather picks people to be on slop.  Rachelle, Kenny.... then Sabrina avoids eye contact and looks terrified hoping she won't be chosen... and.. it's her lucky day because Sarah volunteers.

Big Brother tells the houseguests to pack their things.  Everyone panics assuming it's instant eviction time.  And Sabrina blurts out that she voting Rachelle out if she's nominated.  Ouch.  She regrets saying that when it turns out it's actually just a "sock puppet challenge".  They are put in to pairs and have to create a sock puppet "look-a-like" for their partner and speak as though they are that person.. using the sock puppet.  A number of people go out of character.  And we see Rachelle mock Heather in her impression (surprise, surprise).  Then it's revealed that Houseguests will have one item removed for every time they went "out of character".  Most people broke 4 or 5 times... except Sabrina, who broke 21 times!  Seriously!?  You are terrible at challenges girl.

Now we see some negotiating happening... Kenny is scrambling and hoping people won't nominate/vote for him.  He goes to Jon... who has approached Kenny with deals in the past and been turned down... good luck with that one.  Then he "thinks he's reaching" Heather.  No, no you're not.

Remember when no one wanted to be put on slop?  Well thanks to Rachelle, everyone is on slop.  Despite the amount of times she rolled her eyes in Heather's HOH room, she ate some of her candy.  A big "no-no".   And as a result, everyone's on slop for 48 hours.  Rachelle cries, and no one really feels sorry for her.

Ultimately, Kenny and Allison are nominated (Allison as a so-called pawn).  But, who knows what will happen with the POV and the secret POV that Arisa mentioned during one commercial break.  I guess we'll find out Wednesday.

Big Brother Canada - April 3

I have a confession.  I didn't find tonight's episode particularly interesting.  I know, right?  Usually when you know a disliked player is out of the game, it's pretty exciting... but this was just kind of ... meh.  Just me?

Anyway, let's get down to it.

Canada decides to "reward" the houseguests with a camp out.  And what's a camping trip without booze?  So we see a brief clip of some silly antics. And the housguests get overly excited about a digital camera and start taking a lot of pictures.

Kenny flirts a bit with Rachelle to try to get some information out of her.  I'm pretty sure that's the most I've seen her talk this season.  She says that Arlie is "a nothing to her".  Nice.  Following the "flirtation", Kenny decides to confess to Sarah that he's gay.  The genuine look of surprise on her face was awesome.  She doesn't understand why he would have kept that from everyone, but he explains his "strategy".  She later speculates that this confession could hurt him rather than help because he was such a good liar.  I maintain that he didn't need to pretend to be straight to flirt with girls.  Girls flirt with gay guys all the time.

Then we get a brief (very brief) look at the "Newfie families".  The Pardy (Jon's) family hosts Kenny and Allison's families and it looks like a pretty fun kitchen party.  Singing, dancing and good times.  We see Jon's girlfriend who says she and Neda would be "great friends".  That's girlfriend speak for "I'm jealous of her, but I don't want Canada thinking I'm a jealous *B*".  Side note - Kenny's mom is a pretty lady.  And finally... Allison's family got ripped off... not much in the way of footage of them.

Then - on to the vote.  No surprise - Andrew is voted out, with his only votes to stay coming from Allison (who is wearing the shortest skirt I've ever seen) and Kenny.  My favourite "vote casting" was from Adel who "picked his nose" as he voted (tribute to Andrew).  I'm pretty sure this is what we all expected when we saw who was nominated.

Then we have the challenge.  HGs have to answer  a series of questions.  If you get it right, you pick someone to knock out of the game.  If you're wrong, you're out.  These challenges are great, because it sort of "shows your hand" to the other houseguests.  Kind of hard to tell someone you were "hoping they would win the challenge" if you knock them out.  We only get so far and Arisa "shuts it down".  So it's "to be continued"(although, if you're like me and can't wait, you can read who won on any of the spoiler sites).

Big Brother Canada - April 2

I could have called this episode "I feel sorry for Andrew... wait... no I don't".  And you will soon find out why.

We begin the episode with the "fall out" from Canada's nominations.  Sabrina is sad and Andrew is sad.  At first I think - I feel bad for Andrew and Sabrina.  It would be awful to be nominated by "Canada" and to think that, obviously, you are the most disliked in the house.  Andrew actually has a little cry over it.  And at that point, I am feeling bad for him.

Then, while the houseguests are out in the yard, we see that Sabrina believes she was nominated because they want to break up her alliance and proceeds to ask everyone if they think she's a "B".  Sarah says no, and then we see a clip of her in the diary room saying she deserves an Academy Award for her performance.  If you are a horrible person... and you ask people, during a game where they could potentially be relying on your vote to win, if you are a horrible person... don't expect an honest answer.

Then, Canada has issued a challenge to Sarah.  Apparently we all think that the houseguests are disgusting.... I won't disagree with that.... so she is the manners police... and needs to issue tickets to anyone doing anything disgusting or rude.

So we get a montage of various houseguests swearing, burping, "grabbing their junk", picking their nose and mooning people.

In the end we find out that the top 3 "ticket receivers" are Arlie (for taking his clothes off so often), Jon (for "grabbing his junk" too much) and Andrew (for picking his nose).  They are then asked to go to the HOH room and apologize to Canada.  The apologies are pretty comical.  Especially Jon's.

Now it's time for the POV.  Sabrina and Andrew automatically compete.  Then the others are chosen by random draw.  Jon is chosen, Heather is chosen, Neda is chosen, and then Heather draws the "Houseguests choice".  Andrew hisses in her ear that she needs to pick Kenny.  She chooses....  Adel.  Andrew is ticked.  He decides he's going to confront her (well there's a way to get votes).  He calls her a number of nasty names.  His position is that she was obligated to choose who HE wanted to have compete in the HOH as he needs someone who would take him off the block.  As Heather pointed out, she's playing for herself... not him or anyone else.  She has no obligation to choose as he tells her to.  But he decides to bash her anyway.  And my sympathy for him flies out the window.

Jon wins POV.

Sabrina cries.  But at this point, do any of us care when she cries?  Not to sound heartless, but we've so many of her tears, I think we must all be immune to it by now.

Allison is also sad, she doesn't want to see Andrew go.  I personally think it would be better for her game if he goes, and maybe she can become the houseguest we were all hoping she would be.

So, we'll find out tonight who is going home.

7 Tips for Summer Travel on a Budget

Winter is over (although, I know for some, it feels like it's still here).  We are now approaching summer.  We're on the "downw...
